Donation Amount: £18875.07

Rykneld Homes have donated their Community Donation to 4 projects that they are working on, Eckington Cooking Sessions, Intergenerational Kurling Tournament, Family Holiday Sessions and the Grassmoor Volunteer Event.

Eckington Cooking Sessions involves hosting cooking on a budget sessions and practical cooking demonstrations and classes in a response to the cost-of-living crisis.

The Intergenerational Kurling Tournament involves working with several youth groups who have been enjoying kurling and facilitate a tournament involving both the youth groups and the older persons group.

Family Holiday Sessions will encourage families that are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis to attend free group activities over the Christmas period and over half terms, where they will be provided with a healthy lunch. It will also provide families with the opportunity to access information and advice as they need it.

Rykneld Homes will also be hosting a volunteer recruitment event in Grassmoor to encourage more community volunteers for the extensive programme of events that have been established.

In previous years…

Rykneld Homes have been supporting various community groups, events and projects over the past few years with their EEM Community Donations.

Rykneld Homes supported an event organised by members of the community to raise awareness of domestic abuse. The event consisted of a memorial walk, and Rykneld Homes were present to give advice and information on housing options available to people suffering domestic abuse.

They have supported the set up and sustained success of a food pantry in Eckington. During this time of financial hardship and a cost-of-living crisis, members of the community were able to receive food at a heavily discounted rate for a very small fee. This enabled families and individuals to have the space and ability to start getting back on their feet.

They worked in partnership with Wholey Place Community Group and Broadley Community Group to organise a Jubilee celebration on June 2. Support was given to ensure the Jubilee celebration event could take place in a safe but interactive way. With additional support from the District Council, they gained permission to close the road for a proper street party, which had craft and sales stalls, and entertainment for both adult and children. The stalls helped to raise profits for the group and their further activities.

They have hosted sessions for young people in the local area to attend the allotment and learn about their environment for 1 day a week during the summer holidays. The children learnt about conservation and how to encourage greater sustainability and respect for the environment.

They have also been working with residents living on two of their sites to encourage greater take up of recycling by improving their own provision. They have also worked with them to tackle the growing issue of fly tipping by purchasing CCTV on the worst affected sites to discourage fly tipping.
